THE STORY

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Viviana - I was born and raised in California but my parents come from a small ranchito in Michoacán by the name of Acuitzeramo. The food I grew up eating has been passed down through generations with its style and flavors, unique to the region in Mexico my family is from. The recipes my mother teaches me, hold a special place in my heart and it has become my mission to never let them go. I grew up with strong matriarchs: my mother, tías, and abuelita Chuche , who taught me so much of what I know and as a result, am forever indebted to their influence. They have always shared their love through food and now it is my time to do the same.

Cocina Xicana was heavily inspired by my passion for learning how to create the dishes I grew up eating and sharing them with others. Join me on my journey to master Mexican recipes both simple and complex from a beginner's point of view. I will be cooking regional dishes from Michoacán as well as from other parts of Mexico. I will share with you a full range of authentic Mexican cooking and the common mistakes that come with learning - after all, it is a journey. You will learn along with me and hopefully, I will inspire the inner cocinera/cocinero in you!
